There is so much to see and do during your stay with us at Eskdale Campsite and below you will find a taster of what's available.

Walking

Walking

The Eskdale Valley offers a perfect base for walking. There is a good choice of Lakeland Fells within easy reach of the site including Scafell Pike, England's tallest mountain. For something less energetic there is a lovely walk along the river Esk which takes you down to Muncaster and Ravenglass.

Cycling

Cycling

Whether you are into road bikes or mountain bikes, cyclists are well catered for in Eskdale. Off road there is a choice of bridleways, trails and open fell routes. Whilst on the road you will find a number of super mountain passes including Hardknott Pass (England's steepest road), Wrynose Pass, Birker Fell, Corney Fell, Kiln Bank and Blea Tarn.
For something less strenuous the Eskdale Trail allows you to take your bike on the Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway and bike the return journey through the beatiful Eskdale Valley

Places to Eat

Depsite the peaceful rural setting there is a surprising choice of great places to eat and drink on the doorstep. Just a short walk through the site will take you to The Brook House Inn and The Boot Inn pubs which both serve great food and real ales. Within easy walking distance you will also find The King George IV and The Woolpack Inn who provide transport in their unique army truck for group bookings and offer homemade take away pizza to order until 10pm.

Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway

Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway

Journey from Dalegarth (Boot Station). Travel through the hills, across the estuary, past seven request stops with a 1:40 gradient at times, en route to our final destination some seven miles at Ravenglass, the only coastal village in the UNESCO World Heritage site, Lake District National Park
Please note: that dogs are welcome to travel on the railway (small charge applies).

Hardknott Roman Fort

Hardknott Roman Fort

This remote and dramatically-sited fort was founded under Hadrian's rule in the 2nd century.
Well-marked remains include the headquarters building, commandant's house and bath house. The site of the parade ground survives beside the fort, and the road which Hardknott guarded can be traced for some distance as an earthwork.
